Tour guide: Ivana Gospodnetić from family Gospodnetić of Kaštil Gospodnetić
We will meet at very entrance of village, by the church. Dol is small island village but, because of it beauty and traditional style that will make you feel like you are entering the past, it is one of the most adored place on island by visitors.
It has only 100 inhabitats and, unlike other parts of the Island, tourism didn’t spoil us. Island life is still authentic here. On my hour long tour through village I will tell you stories about our everyday life, and some interesting things from our past, show you my favorite places. Village is very small, but hilly, and we will visit few beutifull spots with view. We will talk about legneds, monsters, so many sheep that poeple from this village own and living in the caves that used to be a thing here. My goal is to make you feel this unique mediterian traquillity. We will visit my home, a 400 year old catle where I live and work with my family. Dol, a village settled in the quiet valley of island Brač, tells the story of Hrapoćuša –the story of the stone, the story of the cake. The love story.
Hrapoćuša celebrates love as a wedding cake – beautiful, rich cake full of texture made out of simple ingredients: walnuts, sugar, flour and eggs.
It resembles the stone with the same name, and that is why they have both named Hrapoćuša.
Every woman in Dol knows how to make it, and every family has a little secret. For centuries is the symbol of special moments and it represented both rich and poor villagers, with the simple ingredients with rich flavour.
SECRET OF GOSPODNETIĆ MARTINOVIĆ – about us
I still remember the first time I tried the cake, I was nine and it was late spring. It was time of the year when summer colours appear and warm air smells like flowers. There was a celebration in our family salon, many people walking by, laughing and talking, and I wandered around them amazed with food and nice dresses, seeking a place to be alone. And, then I saw it on the table, golden coloured, so different from everything I saw before.
There is something about this cake, something that makes you remember the first time you saw it, the first time you tasted it.
