Tour guide: Ivana Gospodnetić from family Gospodnetić of Kaštil Gospodnetić

This year we will focus on wine – simple, homemade, totally unpretentious wine. My family is making this sweet nectar for 10 generations and to us, wine tells the story of love, family and life. In a short walk, I will show you my favourite places of Dol, a small island village where we live.  While visiting my house, a 400-year-old castle, we will taste the wine and everything connected with it – rakija, kvasina and prošek and have a small workshop where we will learn how to do “unforgivable” – mix wine with water.

About hrapoćuša

Dol, a village settled in the quiet valley of island Brač, tells the story of Hrapoćuša –the story of the stone, the story of the cake. The love story.
Hrapoćuša celebrates love as a wedding cake – beautiful, rich cake full of texture made out of simple ingredients: walnuts, sugar, flour and eggs.
It resembles the stone with the same name, and that is why they have both named Hrapoćuša.

Every woman in Dol knows how to make it, and every family has a little secret. For centuries is the symbol of special moments and it represented both rich and poor villagers, with the simple ingredients with rich flavour.

SECRET OF GOSPODNETIĆ MARTINOVIĆ – about us

I still remember the first time I tried the cake, I was nine and it was late spring. It was time of the year when summer colours appear and warm air smells like flowers. There was a celebration in our family salon, many people walking by, laughing and talking, and I wandered around them amazed with food and nice dresses, seeking a place to be alone. And, then I saw it on the table, golden coloured, so different from everything I saw before.

There is something about this cake, something that makes you remember the first time you saw it, the first time you tasted it.
